Coated paper grades featuring a low-to-medium gloss undergo soft calendaring, while those with a high gloss may undergo supercalendering. Cast coated papers are produced using a casting machine, known for their mirror-like surface. Available in both C1S and C2S formats, they find utility in graphic boards (e.g., covers, greeting cards), cartons (e.g., cosmetics), labels, and instances necessitating high gloss. Despite their appearance, they exhibit absorbency comparable to other types of coated paper.

Cartonboard refers to all types of board used in manufacturing folded cartons. This primarily includes folding boxboard, but also incorporates some solid board and other grades known for their flexibility. The combination of softwood pulp content and multi-layer construction allows these boards to be creased and folded without cracking. Other important properties of these board grades typically include Scott plybond, rigidity, thickness, volume, and printability, as well as sufficient barrier properties for their intended use.
